About the Crew

Banh Mi Boyz

A Bay Area breakdance crew blending foundation, faith, and community — rooted in San Jose’s breaking history and growing across cities.

How It Started

Banh Mi Boyz was founded in 2023 by four members: Josh Citajaya, Christopher Pham, and Brian Lin of San Jose State University’s b-boy team King Library Rockers, along with Jeremy Olea from Calgary, Canada.

What began as a group of friends breaking for fun slowly evolved as new members joined, each bringing fresh style, discipline, and structure to the crew.

Roots & Lineage

Our foundation comes from past San Jose crews who helped shape the local scene and our approach to movement:

  • King Library Rockers (SJSU)
  • High on Calcium
  • Lost Existence

Their legacy lives on in how we train, how we battle, and how we represent the Bay wherever we go.

Why “Banh Mi Boyz”?

Despite our different backgrounds, upbringings, and personalities, our love for breaking — and our shared faith — keeps us united.

We’re like a banh mi sandwich: created by mixing French and Vietnamese ingredients. Different on their own, but coming together perfectly. That mix of influences, cultures, and flavors is how we see our crew.

Battles & Milestones

Some key moments that helped shape our journey:

Vans “In the Circle”

Our first official battle as Banh Mi Boyz and the moment the crew started to feel real.

Renegade Rockers Anniversary

Our second battle, where the energy, pressure, and support from the community helped solidify our brotherhood.

Red Bull Lords of the Floor – Seattle

Our biggest battle to date and a major milestone that pushed our level, mindset, and vision for what the crew could become.

A major life milestone for a founding member and a meaningful moment for the Banh Mi Boyz family.

December 2024 — Joshua & Lea get married

A major life milestone for a founding member and a meaningful moment for the Banh Mi Boyz family.

Beyond the Dance Floor

Many of our members are Christian and take that faith into their daily lives, relationships, and how they move in the scene.

Outside of jams and battles, we’ve been involved in homeless outreach and community-focused events — using dance and service together, not just one or the other.

Where We Are Now

Today, Banh Mi Boyz has members across the Bay Area, Sacramento, and New York. We’re still training, still learning, and still telling stories through movement — one session, one battle, and one clip at a time.
