Our Lineage: KLR, Lost Existence, High on Calcium
King Library Rockers
King Library Rockers was San Jose State University’s breaking team, and the first generation of breaking dancers won School of Fools, a breaking competition where college teams across the nation compete against each other.
The second generation of the King Library Rockers, consisting of George, Brian, Josh, and Chris, continued to represent San Jose State.
Eventually, the team broke apart due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the following shutdown of campus. Due to this, breaking was absent at San Jose State until recently, when the new team, SJ Break, was established.
High on Calcium
High on Calcium is a breaking crew that was started in 2011 by members of the hip-hop club, Cloud 9, at Independence High School. The crew was formed through friendship and dance. Members of the crew helped develop the positive path each other took in life and continue to hold each other down.
One of the heart and soul members of the crew later lost the battle with depression. His memory is another element that makes High on Calcium who they are.
Lost Existence
Lost Existence is a breaking crew that formed around the same time as High on Calcium. Although many of its members have since moved on from breaking, the crew became part of the foundation that would eventually lead to the formation of Banh Mi Boyz.
One of its notable members is Chris, who later became one of the founding members of Banh Mi Boyz. Through Lost Existence, the friendships, experiences, and connections that helped shape the next generation of the San Jose breaking community began to form.
